Limenas is the capital city of Thasos and is known for its connection to ancient Greek painter Polygnotus and Olympian Theagenes. We've created a Google Map for you with recommended places: https://tinyurl.com/yfrh58s5.
When it comes to beaches in and around Limenas, we have a few favorites:
Thasos is known for its delicious Greek cuisine. Two of our favorite restaurants are Namaste Restaurant (by the port) and Simi Restaurant (at the old harbor). Both offer an unforgettable gourmet experience.
For those interested in hiking, we recommend a tour that connects various historical sites and offers stunning views over Limenas. If you're interested in sailing or diving, we have partners on the island who can provide special prices. See https://www.facebook.com/catdi... for more information.
There are many archeological sites in Limenas to admire. We recommend a tour that starts from the Museum and includes the Ancient Agora, Temple of Artemis, Ancient Theatre, and Temple of Athena. The tour is about 5km long and takes about 1.5 hours. You can find the tour here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/65....
If you venture out of Limenas, the villages of Panagia and Potamia are a must-see. These traditional small villages are rich in Greek customs and traditions.
In Panagia, you can visit the traditional museum and the olive grove museum. In Potamia, visit the museum of Polygnotus Vagis, a famous Greek-American sculptor and painter.
One of the most beautiful beaches of the island, the Golden beach, is only a 10-minute walk away and boasts 4km of golden sand and crystal blue sea. Another great option is Paradise beach, which is a 10-minute drive away.
In Panagia, we highly recommend trying out the new restaurant Utopia, which offers amazing views and the best combination of Greek cuisine, including daily fresh fish and meat varieties.
Panagia, Potamia, and Skala Potamias offer plenty of paths and landscapes for those who love hiking and trail running. There is a path in Potamia that leads to the highest peak on the island, called "Ypsarion." Golden beach has a great selection of water sports for those looking for more excitement.
We hope these recommendations help you make the most of your stay on the island. If you have any questions or need any help with bookings or arrangements, please don't hesitate to ask.
